Sales have always been great to work with and the 1 star for Sunset Ford Dealership is based on the service manager. He is unreachable, refuses to talk to customers in the store, and sends the advisor to do his talking. He is difficult to reach and the easiest way is to show up and hope he will actually talk to you in person. After the recent visits, the service manager's customer service and attitude have lost the dealership a loyal, long-time multiple-car family.

Sunset Ford service dept.
Sunset Ford service dept. will lie to you and mislead you and then overcharge you for their service. I brought my truck to their service dept. to have the PCM programmed to a valve body I installed in my transmission and after several attempts of trying to get it to work they told me I needed a new transmission and wanted to charge me approx. $9,000. I could have had this done at a local transmission shop for half that price. My truck worked fine for 4 years and had an occasional funny shift at a certain RPM range which was annoying after 4 years, so I did a lot of research and replaced the valve body and lead frame. The only thing Sunset Ford was supposed to do was program the PCM to the new parts. They couldn't even get that right. Then they tell me I need a new transmission. I'm not buying it. Warning: Do not go to this dealership for service unless you want to get lied to and ripped off.

The five star rating that I gave you was for your mobile service unit. The gentleman came to my house to repair. My truck were very polite. Have a great personality and knew exactly what to do within an hour. They had the work completely done. I give this rating to the mobile service because I’ve been trying to get into your service department for a year. I received a safety call notice at the end of 2022. I got a hold of your service department to make an appointment and the parts for the repair were not in. I was told they would call when they came in which never happened. In July 2023 I called to find out about the parts and they said that they had them in stock. So I made another appointment which they said had to be in January 4 of 2024 or I could take the vehicle someplace else and have the work done. I waited to January 4 and brought my vehicle in. I left it with your service department to have it worked on eight hours later I was told that they couldn’t get to it. I would have to leave it overnight to have the work done. I came in to find out what the problem was , it seems that your service writer decided to put other people in front of me and I had to wait which was not satisfactory. I feel that the way you run your service department needs to be corrected the mobile service unit that was sent out to my house after I complain about your service department Did an excellent job. I am more than happy with your mobile service unit not I repeat not your service department. Again the rating I give you is for your mobile service unit not your service department. Thank you.

Most notably they worked on my behalf contacting Ford Corporate about an issue I was having with my hardtop. Jenn, Mike and the rest of the service team worked with Justin and the sales team and they were ultimately able to get me sorted out with a brand new hardtop! What really stood out to me while working with Sunset on this issue was how I felt like they were invested in solving the issue just as much as I was. I did not feel alone anymore, after having dealt with Ford Support for months to no avail. I was kept well informed through the whole process by all members of the teams, and there were never any surprises. Sales department, amazing! Service department,AWFUL!!!! Shame on you Ford!!!!!!! ! Your sales department has to assist in your service department. When I was not able to maintain my car, while it was being diagnosed, Tony Pizzella, in your sales department, who sold me my car, and Memphis (in the rental department) assured me that everything would be handled In a professional manner.They were very supportive. I give them accolades. The service department was very difficult. I reached out on three separate occasions without any response. Had it not been for Tony Pizzella they would probably still have my car. I give great thanks to both Tony and Memphis for navigating me through the difficulties of your service department. Mind you, this is not part of their job description , however they stepped up to the plate to make sure everything was made right . I am disheartened to say that your service department at Ford lacks organization. I should not have been without my car for 3 1/2 weeks to get a diagnostic. My car was drivable, yet I was advised by the service department it needed to be there because a diagnostic could be available at any time . Side note, I had already had my car in several months before with the same issue, which was unresolved. I do blame this on the poor ability to question the customer and take proper notes. Yes, I would be willing to buy a car from Sunset Ford again, but I will never, never, never, have my car serviced there ever, ever again. I apologize for the redundancy, but I hope Ford can make this right for future customers. I will make this known on several media outlets . ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I walked in to test drive a new 24’ Explorer xx and met with Brad. Within minutes he had everything going to start the test drive. I knew right away it was the car for my family and I. Brad spoke with everyone he needed to to get the approval for me to take the Explorer down the street for my husband to see. I have been attempting for 2 days to get the spare tire down and I had recently purchased the truck and did not realize that I did not have the spare tire key to lower it. I had been given Marks name at Sunset Ford and he could possibly help me. Made contact and he had access to a master set of keys for the lock. He was able to get the spare tire down and he even put the tire in the bed of the truck for me. That was awesome, I really appreciated all of his assistance that he gave me. I have dealt with Sunset on several service issues.
I have dealt with Sunset on several service issues. The first was for a trailer hitch installation on my Bronco. The equipment was on back order with no word from Ford on when it would be available. After waiting around 10 weeks Ford still had no estimate for me. The parts department at Sunset was in tune with my frustration and without me asking began to search everywhere for a solution. They were able to source a hitch and I was able to get it installed, Ford still doesn’t know when the part will be available. The parts department did not have to do this and I didn’t ask them to. The easy move for them was to lean on Ford, they had a built in excuse, but they decided to find a solution instead of sitting back and watching. That type of service is not common. My second experience was with Neil in the service department at Sunset. In a word Neil’s work is exceptional. I bought my Bronco out of state and it came to me with an mis-build from Ford. They wanted me to use a local dealer so I contacted Sunset and they assigned me to Neil. He went to the mat for me, as Ford fought him on the correct part. Neil stuck to it and got the correct part in spite of Ford’s best effort. When it came to the install, Neil continued his excellent service and even got the tech to stay late to finish my job so I didn’t have to wait over the weekend. I can not say enough about Neil and the team at Sunset.

My Explorer went to Sunset for an engine replacement. Needless to say, and regardless of who was doing the work, I was initially concerned with the process and supply chain issues. Sunset Ford was on top of it. Their service department kept me informed at every step, and the tech that was responsible for all the work was top notch with loads of experience. The single thing that made me confident with it all is when the tech who did all the work came out to greet and face to face with me. He explained everything he did and provided pictures, and discussed every question I had. At no time did he make me feel like he was in a rush. Very professional, very competent, and took pride in his work. Couldn’t ask for more. If you’re like me, a wrench turning shade tree mechanic, and you have to farm the work out, this is where you want to take your Ford. Anything from a simple oil change to a major overhaul, count on these folks.

I had my first Ford vehicle serviced at this place over 10 years ago, and the service was excellent. So, I decided to bring it back for a faulty headlight replacement/repair on 2.12.24. It seemed like a simple fix, but as of now, I still don't have my car back. During the first week, the technician was out sick, and the following week they needed to run diagnostics and troubleshoot. I informed the service person, Mike, that I needed my vehicle back by 2.26.24 due to prior commitments. I even told him that if he wasn't 100% sure that the vehicle would be ready by then, I would gladly pay for the part and come back at a later time as the car was needed for transportation. Mike assured me that he would work on it. However, it's now 2.27.24, and Mike is not returning my phone calls even though he has my car. I am disappointed, and to be honest, a little embarrassed. The place is good for oil changes like the review says, but I wouldn't recommend getting trapped like I did. Update: After Mike at Sunset called me back, he agreed to return my car to me. We scheduled the repair to be done a week later. When the day arrived for the repair to be completed, he gave me a rental car to use while mine was being worked on. They replaced the wire harness and fixed the recall issue. I got my car back on the same day. In the end, Mike made the situation right, and I am grateful for his help.

When pulling up to Service garage doors, if there are any cars in the lane ahead of you, I didn't know if I should stay with the car or go inside to report my service issue. There seems to be a backlog of service vehicles. Initially, I was told I would that I would need to leave my vehicle at the shop for 7 to 10 days (rear camera not working). Then, I was offered an appointment in August (45 days lead time). Then, Bob Edwards found a time slot that I could be slotted-into. Not sure if this is a labor shortage, or parts shortage, but bring back the extra night shifts. Finally, if customers aren't willing to tie up their car for 7 to 10 days they just might find a local repair shop for those repairs that are not dealership dependent.

A totally positive car buying experience at Sunset Ford! Finding the perfect car for our family was extremely important to me and Steve Lower made that happen. Steve took the time to listen to all of my family's needs and didn't stop until he found the perfect car. I was most impressed because he never asked us to change our " wish list" just to make a sale. After finding the perfect new 2016 Edge, Steve handed us over to Justin who had all our paperwork in order which made the total car buying process very seemless. Finally, I wanted to special order mats and Tom from Sevice offered to have them next day, so we could have them before the holiday week-end. I am writing this review about the team at Sunset Ford on Gravois. Jenn, Mike, Justin(s), Memphis, and Pete have gone above and beyond taking care of me and my ‘21 Ford Bronco. Most notably they worked on my behalf contacting Ford Corporate about an issue I was having with my hardtop. Jenn, Mike and the rest of the service team worked with Justin and the sales team and they were ultimately able to get me sorted out with a brand new hardtop!
