One of the many advantages of a new Ford vehicle is all of the technology that it offers. With a newer Ford vehicle, you’ll likely have keyless entry and remote start via a Ford key fob. However, sometimes accidents happen, and you’ll need a replacement key. On the other hand, you may run into a situation where you simply need an additional key for another driver in your household.

Fortunately, most Ford vehicles will allow you to program a new Ford key from your own St Louis garage. But, what if you don’t know where to begin? Fortunately, programming a new Ford key can be a simple process as long as you’ve got the help of a professional team. Learn how to program a Ford key fob today with the service experts at Sunset Ford St. Louis!

How to Program a Ford Key Fob

Before you begin, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve got a new genuine Ford OEM key fob that you need to program. Using a genuine Ford key fob will ensure that the programming process is smooth and simple. You can always make the short trip from Fenton to our parts center to get a new key fob. With that out of the way, here’s how to program a Ford key fob:

  1. Ensure all the car doors are closed.
  2. Open the driver’s side door.
  3. Press the unlock button on the driver’s side door.
  4. Put the key in the ignition, and turn it from “Off” to “Run” 8 times within a 10-second time span. On the 8th time, make sure you end in the “Run” position. If done correctly, the doors will lock and unlock. If they don’t, start over from step 1.
  5. Press any button on the new key fob within 8 seconds of the doors locking and unlocking. If done correctly, they’ll lock and unlock once more.
  6. Turn the ignition off, and your new key fob has been programmed!

Ford Key Fob Programming – Creating a Ford MyKey®

Many new Ford models are equipped with Ford MyKey® technology. This feature allows you to configure the safety features in your Ford vehicle depending on the key fob in use. This is a great feature if you share your vehicle with a newer driver and want to ensure that they’re driving safely on the Arnold roads. After you’ve programmed your new key fob, you can set up the Ford MyKey® settings for it. Let’s take a look at how to set up a Ford MyKey® profile:

  1. With the key you want to program, turn the ignition to the “on” position.
  2. Go into the main menu on the information display.
  3. Select “Settings”, then the “MyKey®” option.
  4. Now choose the “Create MyKey®” selection.
  5. Hold the “OK” button until a message prompt appears, letting you know that the key has been configured for MyKey®.
  6. Now that you’ve created a MyKey®, you can go through the options and choose the safety features you want to be activated when that specific key is in use.
